Forget Me Not

As I have mentioned before I am a member of  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, aka Mormon, aka LDS.  Twice a year the LDS church holds a General Conference, one in October and one in April.  The General Conferences are held in Salt Lake City, Utah, but are broadcast worldwide and are translated into numerous languages.  At the General Conferences The First Presidency of the Church speaks as well as Apostles, and other General Authorities of the LDS church.

During the October 2011 General Conference the Second Counselor of the First Presidency, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, spoke.  His talk was titled "Forget Me Not"  I have studied and pondered over this talk a few times.  It has been powerful in my life and I am so grateful for it.  I wanted to share this powerful message with you because of the impact it has had on me.  Anyone can benefit from it whether you are Mormon or not.  So please read it here

I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful Sunday :)

Homemaker

When my husband and I were engaged to be married, we talked about what we pictured our life would be like.  We created a list of goals.  Goals that we would reach within the next year.  Goals that we would reach in 5 years and then 10 years.  On that list was the goal that I would be a stay at home mother.  I would care for our children at home and would create a home that was safe and comfortable for our family.  This was something that was very important to both of us.  Something that was fueled by our love for the Gospel.  Something that would greatly benefit our family for years to come.

When we learned we were pregnant it was decided that I would stop working a week before my due date.  I haven't worked since.  Our daughter is now 15 1/2 months old.  I wish I could say that I have figured out how to be a homemaker but I am far from it.

I have learned that I do not enjoy cleaning.  It is at times difficult for me because of my herniated disc.  It is at times difficult because I have a toddler who demands so much of my attention.  I created a chart, mapping out cleaning zones.  Each zone was carefully designated to a day of the week.  I successfully followed the chart for one week.  That was 4 months ago.  Now don't worry, I do clean it just maybe isn't as efficient as I would like.

I don't know how to cook.  I don't really have recipes.  Simple quick easy recipes are what I need and I have only three or four.  (Please share yours with me).  I wish I new how and what to cook.

I have a huge desire to be an amazing homemaker.  I have a huge desire to create a childhood for my children worthy of remembrance and mention at family gatherings years down the road.  I want my children to love and rely on each other all their lives.  So I keep trying for them, for my husband, for my grandchildren.  One day it will all be how Joe and I imagined.  Until then, I'll just keep trying to figure it out.
